The masterpieces of our collection have been given a special place in the museum. In Schatkamer you will not find rare paintings or expensive jewellery, but key objects that modernised of our way of living. At first glance you will see steam engines, vacuum cleaners and old-fashioned crockery, but these items tell an exciting story of revolutionary changes that took place in factories, in mines and in households all over the country.
In the depot of Discovery Museum, which is open to the public, you can see top-notch objects which transport you to different times and places. Here, you can admire the beauty of Maastricht pottery, the heavy equipment with which coal was extracted from deep down in the Limburg mines and the steam engines which symbolise the Industrial Revolution.

For many years, Maastricht was noted as a ceramics city, home to famous ceramics and porcelain factories such as Regout/Sphinx, Société Céramique and Mosa. You’ll discover a large collection of products made by these factories in the Treasure Trove: from tableware and decorative objects such as commemorative plates, figurines, and vases, to sanitaryware.

Steam engines and motors tell the story of the development of mechanical power. They keep factories running, ships sailing, trains and cars driving. Without engines, our industrial society would not be possible.
The stunning objects by Maastricht-based glass and crystal factories Regout/Sphinx, Stella, Kristalunie and Verenigde Glasfabrieken are the stars of this subcollection. In this collection, you can admire tableware and decorative objects made by Kristalunie, many the work of famous designers.
